Los Angeles TV news anchor Chauncy Glover dies unexpectedly at age 39

Three-time Emmy-winning journalist and Los Angeles news anchor Chauncy Glover died unexpectedly on Tuesday, his family announced. He was 39.

Glover had co-anchored the 5 and 11 p.m. newscasts at KCAL News with Pat Harvey and shared the 8 and 10 p.m. desk with Suzie Suh for the past year after joining their anchor team in October 2023.

His family announced the news in a statement to KCAL, writing: “We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy’s beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy. He was more than a son and brother – he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community.”

His cause of death had not yet been made public as of Wednesday morning.

In one of his last social media posts, he shared a video on Instagram highlighting some of his most memorable moments with KCAL. His caption read: “Don’t watch the clock; do what he does. Keep going! My first year in #LA on #kcalnews #cbshit the books! God is good!”

Before joining KCAL in Los Angeles, Glover was the first Black male lead anchor for Houston’s KTRK, where he was on the air for eight years, according to KCAL.

The Alabama native worked in Michigan, Florida, Georgia and Texas before moving to California.

One of his accomplishments outside of his journalism career was founding “The Chauncy Glover Project,” a mentorship program designed to “help develop inner-city teenage boys into genuine and accomplished gentlemen,” according to the website. The program focuses on college readiness, etiquette, public speaking, financial responsibility and mental health awareness, among other topics.

“Chauncy’s compassion and dedication to helping others, especially through the Chauncy Glover Project, has changed countless lives and inspired so many young men to pursue their dreams,” his family wrote in their statement. “His talent, warmth and vision left a mark on all who knew him, and the world is darker without him.”

“While we grieve this profound loss, we are comforted by the outpouring of love and memories shared by those who knew Chauncy as the passionate, gifted soul that he was,” they concluded. “We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn and honor his incredible honor. legacy. He was taken from us far too soon, but his impact will be felt forever.”
