Philadelphia police said Wednesday evening they were aware of social media posts encouraging looting and other criminal behavior.

Police said officers were dispatched to several parts of the city due to possible looting.

“Criminal conduct will not be tolerated, and our officers are prepared to take all appropriate action where warranted,” said Philadelphia Police Sgt. Eric Gripp said in a statement. “As Commissioner (Kevin) Bethel stated at Monday morning’s press conference, we will continue increased patrols and staffing in the coming days as needed to protect our business communities.”

Police said they will monitor social media throughout the evening and share information with partner agencies. They ask anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact 911.
