Robert Morris vs. Delaware Prediction and Picks

It is a non-conference conflict on the university hardwood as a member of the Horizon League speaks to one of the CAA in the First State. The Robert Morris Colonials are on the move as they travel to do battle Delaware blue chickens Thursday evening. Coming off an 87-59 road loss to West Virginia in their season opener on Monday night, Robert Morris failed to finish as an 18.5-point underdog in their previous game. Delaware was defeated 85-73 at home against Bucknell on Monday night in their season opener, losing outright as a 3.5-point favorite in their previous game. In the all-time series between the programs, the teams have split four matchups, with Delaware earning a 73-69 road victory in the most recent matchup on December 11, 2023.

Robert Morris even wants to make a record this season

Robert Morris opened their season when they were attacked on the road by West Virginia in Darian DeVries’ first game as coach of the Mountaineers in Morgantown. The Colonials are 0-1 on the season and will be looking to rebound here to match their record. Against West Virginia, Robert Morris struggled to slow down the Mountaineers’ offense and had trouble knocking down shots himself, leaving them defeated. The Colonials trailed 46-26 at halftime and despite playing better in the second half, they never applied sustained pressure to get back into the game. It will take a better offensive performance than we saw on Monday night for the team to have success.

In the game, Robert Morris was limited to 32.4% shooting from the floor, including six of 24 from three-point range, and allowed West Virginia to shoot 55% in the game. The Colonials won the rebound battle 41-37, including pulling down 16 offensive boards, but turned the ball over 13 times. Josh Omojafo was the only player in double figures for Robert Morris as he scored 13 points, although seven of those came at the charity stripe. He went just three of nine from the floor in the game. DJ Smith and Ismael Plet each finished with eight points, while Kam Woods scored seven, though he was completely ineffective from a shooting perspective as he missed 13 of his 16 shots from the floor.

Blue hens dart to regroup at home

Delaware only put up a fight but was defeated at home by Bucknell in their season opener on Monday night. The Blue Hens hope to regroup here at home to get back in the win column and even put their stamp on the young season. Against Bucknell, Delaware controlled the game in the first half, but their offense seemingly hit a wall after the break, allowing the Bison to rally, regroup and take control of the game. The Blue Hens simply seemed to run out of answers in the second half as Bucknell dropped the hammer on them to erase a nine-point halftime deficit.

In the match, the Blue Hens led 46-37 at halftime and by as many as 12 in the match, only to fade away in the second half. Delaware was outscored 48-27 in the second half of the game to end up with the loss. The Blue Hens had a shooting percentage of 42.2% in the game, including eight of 26 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle by a 40-32 margin. Delaware allowed Bucknell to shoot 52.7% from the field, including 10 of 19 from beyond the arc, and was dominated 38-18 in points in the paint in the game. Erik Timko led three players in double figures for the Blue Hens, scoring 20 points in the loss. John Camden contributed 19 points while Niels Lane added 16 in the match. The problem for the Blue Hens is that the rest of the team combined for just 18 points in 108 combined minutes of play. That includes just nine points from the bench group over 57 combined minutes. They have to be better than what we saw for the Blue Hens to have success.

Best bets for Robert Morris vs. Delaware

Side bet for the full game

Insider status:

Judgement:

Both teams had problems in their respective openers and will hope to regroup here. Delaware had a double-digit lead against Bucknell before being thrown in the second half and you have to think they’ll get better production from their bench than they did in the opener. Robert Morris struggled to shoot the ball with any kind of consistency against West Virginia in their opener, while Woods struggled to shoot the ball with any success. The Colonials will stay in the game thanks to their rebounding ability, but the fact that Delaware has a trio of guys who can score points and be at home gives them the upper hand in this game.

Prediction: Delaware Blue Hens -5

Total choice for the entire game

Insider status:

Judgement:

Robert Morris surpassed the total in their season opening game. The Colonials and Mountaineers combined for 146 points, moving ahead of the 143.5 point mark set for that match. Robert Morris surrendered an effective field goal percentage of 66.7% to the Mountaineers, which needs improvement here. Delaware also blew past the total in their season-opening loss. The Blue Hens combined with the Bison scored 158 points against a number of 140.5 points according to the books. Delaware allowed an effective field goal percentage of 61.8% in the game, including that 10-of-19 mark from beyond the arc. Make sure both teams put up decent offensive numbers and push this game over the mark.

Prediction: over 147.5
