Blizzard conditions will continue until Saturday morning

Heavy snow continued to fall in Colorado Thursday morning, and National Weather Service forecasters said the storm could last through the weekend.

Snow increased in coverage and intensity across the Plains and Colorado metropolitan area Thursday morning, according to NWS radars.

The Palmer Divide and Eastern Plains will see the heaviest snow Thursday with accumulations of up to 14 inches, NWS forecasters said. The Denver area could also see another 1 to 4 inches of snow, and more snow is expected to fall in the southern metro.

Forecasters say “dangerous to nearly impossible travel conditions” will exist in the Plains and metro area, with more travel impacts south of Interstate 70.

A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect for most of the Denver region from Thursday evening through Saturday morning, forecasters said. The exact time frames for the watch were not available.

“Moderate to heavy snow is possible…Friday through Saturday morning as the storm system over the past few days is expected to finally leave the area,” forecasters said in a Hazardous Weather Alert. The snow is expected to taper off across Colorado Thursday evening before returning Friday morning.

The Eastern Plains could see up to a foot of snow Friday afternoon through Saturday morning, forecasters said in the weather alert.
