Why is Cincinnati Bengals Rookie Jermaine Burton inactive against the Raiders on Sunday

CINCINNATI— Bengals rookie wide receiver Jermaine Burton is surprisingly inactive on Sunday.

The 23-year-old is healthy and the Bengals made him a key part of the offensive game plan all week.

What has changed?

Burton was a no call, no show for Saturday’s walkthrough, according to sources from multiple leagues.

“We’re working through it,” Burton’s agent Trevon Smith said via text message. ‘Still maturing and growing.’

The Bengals selected Burton in the third round (80th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft. He had a 41-yard catch against the Eagles last week and has two catches this season.

Head coach Zac Taylor and star quarterback Joe Burrow praised Burton ahead of Sunday’s game against the Raiders.

They built their game plan around him this week, with Tee Higgins suffering a quad injury.

That clearly changed after Saturday’s missed walkthrough.

Hopefully we’ll get more details after the match. According to Paul Dehner Jr. from The Athletic, the Bengals brass are expected to address the situation after Sunday’s game.
