Delegates from Beaufort Co. locate 40 escaped primates

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The Yemassee Police Department is working with Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center staff to locate 40 escaped primates.

Beaufort County deputies confirmed in a message to X that the primates escaped from the research center on Castle Hall Road in Yemassee on Wednesday evening. They also sought the public’s help.

Traps have been set up in the area, with Yemassee police using thermal imaging cameras on site in an attempt to locate the animals.

Residents are advised to keep all doors and windows secured to prevent primates from entering homes.

If anyone locates any of the escaped primates, authorities say not to contact them and instead call 911 immediately.
