500,000 sold on Amazon recalled after fires

More than half a million space heaters sold on Amazon are being recalled due to a safety issue, federal product regulators announced Thursday.

GoveeLife and Govee Smart Electric Space Heaters can overheat, posing fire and fire hazards, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has posted online.

About 512,500 were sold in the United States and about 48,600 in Canada, according to the safety commission.

Tests showed that the smart electric space heaters did not meet the “voluntary industrial safety standard, UL 1278,” which poses an overheating and fire risk due to wireless control functions, the safety committee wrote in the news release.

According to the committee, there have been 113 reports of overheating, including seven reports of fire and one report of a minor burn.

Which space heaters are being recalled?

The smart electric space heaters were sold online on Amazon.com, https://us.govee.com, the Govee Home app and TikTok Shop from September 2021-2024 for between $30 and $150.

The recalled heaters have the following model numbers, which can be found on the manufacturer’s label on the bottom of each unit.

  • H7130 (including the H7130101 variant)
  • H7131
  • H7132
  • H7133
  • H7134
  • H7135

In addition, “GoveeLife” or “Govee” is printed on the front or side of each unit.

The space heaters were sold in black and white and are 9 inches to 26 inches high, depending on the model.

What should you do if you have a recalled space heater?

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact the brands for a refund.

“Unplug the electric space heater, cut the power cord and send an image of the destroyed electric space heater, the manufacturer’s label and the SN code on the bottom or side of the unit to GoveeLife or Govee via the link https:// recall. goveelife.com/heater-recall,” the recall reads.
