The Family The Dollar store at 1130 North Main Street in Miami Valley has officially posted closing signs on its doors.

The signs have shocked many, as the store has been known as a busy and beloved shopping hotspot for years.

Riverdale Neighborhood Association spokesperson Victoria McNeal said she was surprised by the store’s closure.

She said, “There are people coming from across the bridge, River Commons, the Five Oaks neighborhood, Main Street.

“So it is a heavily visited store.”

The exact closing date has yet to be announced to disappointed customers.

Several customers told us News Center 7 that they thought the store was in excellent condition after it was renovated last year.

The owners also decided to revamp the outdoor parking lot, shoppers say.

McNeal added, “So we were scratching our heads, ‘Why renovate if you’re going to close?’

As shoppers begin counting down the days until the Family Dollar store officially closes, several discounts and savings are already being offered.

Some people have suggested the store is closing due to a sharp increase in shoplifting in recent months, which is impacting business.

But McNeal believes that while petty theft may have played a role, cash issues are likely the bigger problem.

She said: ‘People probably steal, but that can’t be the whole reason why you’re closing.

“I think it’s about staff maintenance and maybe also about pay.”

Shoppers don’t have to travel far to reach their store next nearest Family Dollar store, as there are a whopping 25 locations in Montgomery County.

Less than ten minutes away is the nearest store at 5607 N Dixie Drive.

In recent months, the chain has announced thousands of closures due to financial problems.

Family Dollar, which has about 8,000 locations nationwide, has faced ongoing difficulties since being acquired by Dollar Tree in 2015 for $8.5 billion.

The acquisition was intended to help Dollar Tree compete with larger rivals, but integration has been difficult.

In May, Family Dollar shoppers in a Buffalo, New York, neighborhood lost six stores at once.

Many residents in the area are considered low-income and have difficulty shopping in many of the higher-end stores that are common in the area.

They said they were distraught by the closures and unsure how they would find affordable shopping in the future.

One of the last stores to close was in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Alcohol and tobacco could be purchased at 20 percent off in the last few weeks the store was open, before the store on South Minnesota Avenue closed its doors for the final time in September.

At least $1,000 stores must close, CEO says

DOLLAR Tree, the parent company of Family Dollar, announced it will close approximately 1,000 stores in the coming years.

The company announced in March it would close stores after the discount retailer it acquired nearly a decade ago plummeted in value.

Dollar Tree plans to close about 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of this year.

This will be followed by the closure of 370 Family Dollar and 30 Dollar Tree stores in the coming years.

The discount store chain has also indicated that sales are affected by the cost of living and inflation.

But USA Today added that Dollar Tree is also shocked by the reduced government benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

This has left families struggling to manage finances, losing as much as $250 per month.
