Flames vs Sabers Prediction, picks and odds for today’s NHL game

Daniel Vladar has been a stud for the Flames this season, and he will be a big reason why this game remains under the total.

The Calgary Flames overcame a multi-goal deficit in the third period to earn a hard-earned point in Boston last time out, and they will look to get another positive result to end their three-game road trip on a high this afternoon against the Buffalo Sabres.

According to my Flames vs Sabers predictions, Daniel Vladar builds on his excellent play in a low-scoring matinee.

Let’s break things down further in my NHL picks for November 9.

Flames vs Sabers prediction

My Flames pick
Less than 6.5 (-125 at BET99)

My Flames analysis
Daniel Vladar gave up five goals against the Vancouver Canucks in the season opener, but has tightened the screws since then, allowing three goals or fewer in five of his past six starts.

His figures were exceptional during that period. Vladar has achieved a SV% of 0.923 in all situations, good for third among all starting goaltenders.

Star netminders like Jake Oettinger, Connor Hellebuyck and Ilya Sorokin are just a few who have been hot on Vladar’s heels during that period… certainly good company to keep.

Vladar is in a good place to build on his recent form. The Buffalo Sabers haven’t tested the goaltenders hard lately, ranking 21st in shots and 29th in expected goals at 5v5 in their last ten games.

They also struggled to figure out their power play, ranking 30th in expected goals during that period.

The Calgary Flames rank 15th in expected goals allowed and ninth in goals conceded on a 5-on-5 basis over the past ten games. They have also done well to limit the number of penalties they impose.

Calgary’s defense should be able to hold its own in this spot. It has a good goalkeeper and the pace of play can be a bit slow given such an early start time. It’s hard to imagine a ceiling offensive performance for the Sabres.

On the other hand, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has been playing exceptionally well lately. He has conceded just four goals in his past three games and has an SV% of 0.954 in that span.

UPL looks a lot more like the guy we saw in the second half of last season, making the Sabers a tough team to score against.

This has everything to do with a low-scoring affair.

Flames vs Sabers same-game parlay (SGP)

Bet99

Under 6.5

Rasmus Andersson More than 1.5 shots

Connor Zary Over 1.5 shots

Rasmus Andersson’s shot volume is very good at the moment. He made 1.5 shots in four of his last five shots, an average of 2.8 per game. His only failure came against a low-event Bruins team that does a good job of limiting shots on opposing defensemen.

The Sabers have given up the majority of shots of late and rank 25th in shot suppression at 5-on-5 and in penalty kill over the past ten games. Andersson routinely logs more than 24 minutes and should have plenty of opportunity to take advantage of a good shooting match.

Connor Zary remains a prime target for shots, especially on the road. He has taken multiple shots in six of Calgary’s seven games this season and has attempted at least three shots in each of them.

Dating back to last season, Zary has at least two shots in 18 of the 21 games in which he had three or more attempts.
