Michigan fumbles; Indiana still leads, 14-3

5:43 2Q: Michigan fumbles; Indiana still leads, 14-3

The Wolverines finally managed to stop the Hoosiers’ attack.

But on the ensuing drive, Alex Orji fumbled in third and Indiana’s Mikail Kamara recovered.

Michigan challenged the fumble call and it was upheld, so Michigan loses a timeout and has no more challenges.

10:54 2Q: Charleston ruled out

CBS Sports just reported that CJ Charleston, who was injured on the kickoff return after Indiana’s first touchdown, was taken for an X-ray and is cleared for the game.

12:10 2Q: Indiana with another TD, leads Michigan 14-3

It’s another quick drive for the Hoosiers – this one being 7 plays for 65 yards.

Kurtis Rourke found Elijah Sarratt for a 36-yard score.

Once again, Will Johnson’s absence is felt.

The Wolverines will have to try to find a way to keep the Hoosiers offense off the field.

End 1Q: Indiana 7, Michigan 3

The Wolverines are once again without star cornerback Will Johnson and it remains an issue.

After Michigan punted, CJ Charleston was injured on the return and had to be carted off the field.

1:17 1Q: Indiana responds to take a 7-3 lead over Michigan

After forcing the Wolverines to make a field goal, the Hoosiers responded with a surgical drive of their own.

Kurtis Rourke led a 7-play, 75-yard drive ending with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Omar Cooper Jr.

Ty Son Lawton had a 13-yard run and Rourke found Ke’Shawn Williams for 26 yards, bringing the Hoosiers into the Michigan red zone.

Indiana now has 46 touchdowns on 55 drives inside the red zone this season.

5:01 1Q: Zvata FG; Michigan takes a 3-0 lead

After allowing the Hoosiers a first down on their opening drive, the Michigan Wolverines finished with a pretty decent first drive.

Davis Warren led Michigan on a 14-play, 66-yard drive that culminated in Dominic Zvada’s 39-yard field goal.

Highlights of the drive included two early throws to Colston Loveland, one for a first down; a first from 16 yards to Fredrick Moore; a 10-yard completion for Peyton O’Leary and a beautiful first from 16 yards for Tyler Morris, who put his toes down and hung on the ball.

The only bad thing was Warren losing the ball on third down, a fumble that Michigan recovered.

Availability report

Here’s the availability report from beat writer Angelique Chengelis:

Will Johnson remains out.

Michigan wants to play the role of spoiler, while No. 8 Indiana aims for its first 10-win season in program history.

The Wolverines have defeated the Hoosiers in 27 of the last 28 meetings. The only loss came during the COVID-19 pandemic shortened season.

Michigan is hoping for the return of starting cornerbacks Will Johnson and Jyaire Hill, who will be needed against the nation’s second-highest scoring offense at 46.6 points per game.
