Notre Dame faces a Florida State team that has nothing to play for but pride for the rest of the season. Opponents who have nothing left to lose are often the most dangerous. Despite holding a 7-3 Irish lead after the first quarter, the Seminoles showed they are no pushovers.

The Irish needed only 103 seconds to score. The middle of their first drive with a 28-yard completion from Riley Leonard to Aneyas Williams. It culminated with Leonard running for the game’s first touchdown for 34 years.

The Seminoles’ first possession lasted nearly half the quarter, although that was helped by an Irish defensive penalty on fourth down. Although the Seminoles reached the Irish 4-yard line, all they could muster was a Ryan Fitzgerald field goal to get them on the board.

Then there was a whole lot of nothing with four straight three-and-outs, two apiece for the teams. Jadarian Price broke that streak with a first-down run in the final minute. He did so without Anthonie Knapp, the Irish’s starting left tackle who went to the bench during the quarter with a currently undisclosed injury.
