Oregon delivers scoop-and-score vs. Maryland from Jordan Burch’s strip sack

Oregon is off to a slow start vs. Maryland. The Ducks have since shaken off that start with a key play by the defense.

This time it comes from the work of star defensive lineman Jordan Burch. Fans are happy to see Burch continue to play in the backfield after his midseason absence.

With Maryland’s offense facing a 3rd-and-6, Burch was able to get a pass rush going and get behind quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. arrive. He got around the edge and was on Edwards in a flash.

Burch arrived just as Edwards completed his throwing motion, but Burch broke the ball loose just before the QB began his forward motion. As the ball squirted forward, the officials let the play roll along as Brandon Johnson scooped the ball up and rolled it 60 yards for the scoop-and-score.

Officials were reviewing the play as Edwards’ arm moved as the ball came loose. But replay showed the ball started moving before Edwards’ arm came forward, prompting the officials to go on the field with the call.

Here’s how it all went down, with Oregon building a 14-3 lead:

It goes down as Burch’s first sack since returning to the lineup last week against Michigan. It’s also Oregon’s first defensive touchdown of the season.
