Brad Marchand believes the Bruins ‘need’ this change

The Bruins struggled to determine the source of their problems on Saturday night.

Head coach Jim Montgomery and leading scorer David Pastrnak were also puzzled as to why Boston was struggling so late in its game against Ottawa at TD Garden. The Bruins didn’t put a single shot on net in the third period and the rival Senators scored the game winner less than a minute into overtime.

Boston’s ongoing struggles can likely be linked to several factors, but Brad Marchand believes there is one way the B’s can turn things around.

“Sometimes when you’re not confident or you’re thinking too much, your execution is slow,” Marchand told reporters, according to The Athletic. “We have to get out of our heads. Stop thinking and start playing. It comes down to wanting and competing at this point. We have to understand that we have to be better. That’s part of it. Sometimes, when you’re thinking about where you need to be, you’re half a second late. That is too slow in this competition.”

The Black and Gold will try to heed their captain’s advice on Tuesday when they begin a two-game road trip against the St. Louis Blues. Puck drop for the 2019 Stanley Cup Final rematch is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET, following an hour of pregame coverage on NESN.
