Flick has to drop Big Star

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick will tinker with his attack and midfield when the Catalans travel to Anoeta for a La Liga match against Real Sociedad on Sunday, and he has also been forced to drop a big name star.

Flick currently has his men six points clear at the top of the table, thanks largely to big wins such as the 4-0 thrashing of bitter rivals Real Madrid in El Clasico two weeks ago.

However, at a pre-match press conference on Saturday, the German did not accept that La Real would be easy to score due to their poor home form of late.

“Every game is different, the counter is always zero,” Flick emphasizes. “And that’s even more true against Barcelona. The whole stadium is going to support them, they know how to apply pressure.

“For us it is important to have confidence and possession, to continue with our idea of playing with and without the ball. It is important to have more ball possession and create chances and take advantage of them,” said Flick.

There have been two injuries with Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal missing from the final training session prior to Flick’s interview with the press.

While the former reportedly suffered a bout of gastroenteritis IFthe latter trained in the gym instead of going to the field at the Joan Gamper CT.

Neither man will start as Lamine suffers an injury, confirmed by the club’s impending kick-off.

The front line is completed by striker Robert Lewandowski and usual left winger Raphinha who takes back his place on the right wing ceded to Lamine when the La Masia gem rose to Xavi Hernandez’s first team last season.

On the left wing, Fermin Lopez is then rewarded for his strong cameo against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League midweek.

Flick keeps the same midfield by trusting Frenkie de Jong alongside Pedri and in front of pivot Marc Casado.

Back in defense, Gerard Martin is out of the crease while Alejandro Balde reclaims his usual left-back position.

Balde is joined by the usual other three men, meaning Inigo Martinez partners Pau Cubarsi in central defense, while Belgrade’s hat-trick king of assists, Jules Kounde, helps protect Inaki Pena’s goal at right-back.
