Pittsburgh Steelers WR George Pickens makes insane catch vs. Commanders

PITTSBURGH – Since Russell Wilson took over as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting quarterback, his connection to wide receiver George Pickens has been clearly visible. After struggling through the first six weeks of the season, the team’s star receiver suddenly revived his season when the veteran QB took over under center.

In only their third game together for the Steelers, Wilson and Pickens combined for a touchdown play worthy of consideration for catch of the year. During the team’s first trip to the red zone during their game against the Washington Commanders, it took just two plays for the offense to convert.

With the shotgun snap, Wilson stepped back and floated his patented moon ball about 20 yards toward the end zone. Pickens beat the opposing defender to the goal and lay down, showing off his flexibility and aerial skills as he contorted his body to collect the pass. The touchdown gave the Steelers a 7-0 lead against the Commanders in the first quarter.

The Internet quickly came to life after Pickens’ play. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo shared a clip of the touchdown grab via his X account. He also shared the sentiment that this was a touchdown of the year worthy catch.

“George Pickens with his second TD of the season and one of the best in the NFL so far this year,” he wrote.

Pickens comes alive as the season progresses, and Wilson is a big reason for that. Through the first eight games of the 2024 campaign, he has recorded 35 receptions for 548 yards and one touchdown. This incredible play earned him his second of the year and it looks like there will be many more to round out the year.
