NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has eight international games in his sights in 2025, including one in Ireland

The Steelers are a potential candidate to play in Ireland in a future match. Their former owner, Dan Rooney, served as ambassador to Ireland from 2009 to 2012, and Pittsburgh is one of three NFL teams with Ireland as a global market (Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets).

In May 2023, Steelers director of business development and strategy Daniel Rooney said it was the organization’s “long-term ambitions” to play a game in Ireland.

Ireland would be the sixth country to participate in the NFL International Games, after Britain, Mexico, Germany, Brazil and Spain, and the fourth European country to do so.

As Goodell mentioned, the NFL has already announced that they will play a game next season at the renovated Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, the Spanish capital. The competition is also scheduled to return to Estadio Azteca in Mexico City for the first time since 2022. After the NFL’s debut in September in São Paulo – a thrilling 34-29 victory for the Eagles over the Packers – the league is expected to get back on track. Brazil. The NFL will also return to Germany in 2025 and sees Berlin as a potential location for a match.

NFL team owners voted in December to allow the league to host eight international games each season.
