Offense has found a new way to be bad

Review of the Jets’ 31-6 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.

Offence

This unit has found a new way to be bad. There was only one three-and-out. There was only one turnover. Still, it was a terrible performance where they didn’t reach the end zone and didn’t have a play of more than 15 yards.

QB Aaron Rodgers (22-of-35, 151 yards, 1 fumble, 72.4 QB rating) looked afraid of getting hit and completed only one pass longer than 10 yards in the air.

Davante Adams (13 targets, 6 catches, 31 yards) and Garrett Wilson (6 targets, 5 catches, 41 yards) did not play a role in the game.

The Jets went 0-for-3 in the red zone and looked like a team without answers.

Defense

This was the Jets’ worst defensive performance this season.

They couldn’t tackle it. They couldn’t provide cover. They couldn’t do anything right.

The Cardinals totaled 406 yards and 28 first downs. QB Kyler Murray (22 of 24, 266 yards, 1 passing TD, 126.7 QB rating, 3 rushes, 21 yards, 2 rushing TDs) looked like he could do anything he wanted.

The Cardinals had three touchdown drives of 70 yards and one of 88 yards. CB Sauce Gardner missed a huge tackle and he was just one of several Jets defenders clutching the air.

Special teams

Rookie kicker Spencer Shrader made the first two field goals of his career and it appears he could provide some stability at the position for the Jets.

Thomas Morstead only kicked twice in the match, putting one in the 20.

There wasn’t much of a return game, as the teams combined for eight touchbacks and just three punts.

Coaching

The Jets had extra rest and everything to play for and delivered a complete dud. This isn’t just about interim coach Jeff Ulbrich. He didn’t miss a single tackle in the match. But he deserves a fair amount of blame.

The Jets still look like a sloppy, unprepared team and their defense was right in the thick of it in this game. The Jets looked like they had no idea what the Cardinals were doing.

The Jets focused on stopping the run all week and the Cardinals beat them with the pass. Todd Downing didn’t have a bad game, but I doubted three straight passes from the 3-yard line early in the third quarter.
