Who is Billy Klapper in Yellowstone?

Billy Klapper was the famous spur maker known as the last spur maker to make one-piece spurs for cowboys.

In Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 9, we see Rip admiring a pair of Spurs at a local store in Pampa, Texas. Those were the tracks made by the real track maker Billy Klapper. In Pampa, every farmer and cowboy knows who Billy Klapper is.

He made the first set of tracks in 1966 while working as a ranch hand. He was heavily influenced by another legendary spur maker, Adolph Bayers, as he made a career out of bit and spur. Billy soon saw that there was a high demand for his spurs, and that’s when he decided to quit his job and make spur making a full-time occupation.

His work was soon recognized by the entire community of ranchers and cowboys around the world. The one who started making spurs from a small workshop in Pampa soon developed 200 spurs per year, along with 680 patterns of custom spur designs.

The iconic trail maker’s company hasn’t made it to the Yellowstone TV Show yet, but he did film for a guest appearance in the final episodes of the series. Sadly, he won’t be around to watch his on-screen performance as he passed away on September 10, 2024.
