Dan Campbell had an invaluable response to Jake Bates’ game-winning FG

The Detroit Lions are starting to look an awful lot like the Kansas City Chiefs in many ways. After last night’s electrifying comeback with 16 points in the second half against the Houston Texans, we can add that these two teams seem uniquely able to overcome fatal flaws to pull off one win after another. Somehow, Dan Campbell’s team managed to survive five Jared Goff interceptions and earn a 26-23 victory over Sunday night football and moving to 8-1 this season.

There were plenty of heroes to go around. Goff for not quitting. Amon-Ra St. Brown for being his usual self. Carlton Davis for picking off two third-quarter passes. Heck, the entire defense throwing a shutout in the second half.

And Jake Bates, of course.

The former Michigan Panther, now playing on the biggest stage, remained perfect this year, blasting a 58-yarder to tie the game with five minutes to play, and a 52-yarder as time expired to close the margin of to provide victory.

Campbell’s reaction to the nerves of steel and real leg was subdued, yet enjoyable.

Win That game after digging That deep in a hole? Of course Campbell would grin. It’s a grin that shows you can’t quite believe this just happened, and yet an understanding that of course it happened, because the lions really are special.
