Dan Campbell locker room speech after win over Houston Texans

I suspect Dan Campbell had a very different locker room speech planned.

In the NRG Stadium locker room after the Detroit Lions’ electric finish to beat the Houston Texans 26-23, the head coach couldn’t contain his excitement.

“Man, that’s the definition of resilience,” Campbell said. “You guys just kept going, right? We did what we had to do. And we just bought our time.”

Of the Lions’ defense, Campbell said, “That was outstanding, man. And we knew it was just a matter of time.”

Of the Lions’ offense, he said, “We’re getting our points. (Kicker Jake) Bates, that was freaking huge, okay?”

“And I’ll say this again. This is what great teams do. This is what great teams do,” Campbell continued. ‘Even if you’re having a bad day. You’ll find a way, man. You find a damn way and you want it to happen.

“That’s what you did today. That’s what you did.’

Campbell then presented three game balls. First to defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

Second behind cornerback Carlton Davis III.

And the third ball for Bates, of course.

At the end, Campbell, as usual, asks Goff to break it up.

“Hey, if that’s not a damn lesson, then it’s not over until it’s over, that’s it, guys. Good for fighting all day,” Goff said. “We’re fucking different from all 31 in this league, okay? Well done,

“Win on three. One. Two. Three.”

Team: “Win.”

And it looks like I’m going to win one of my fantasy games this week thanks to Bates.
