An armistice between the Allied nations and Germany officially began on November 11, 1918 – the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, according to the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

    Every year on November 11, the US honors its veterans for their “patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the greater good,” the VA said on its official website explaining Veterans Day.
