Odell Beckham Jr. faces the Rams again

Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. hasn’t done much in Miami this season, with just three catches for 15 yards. His next opportunity comes on Monday night, in his first game against the Rams at SoFi Stadium since suffering a torn ACL (or, more accurately, when his knee with a pre-torn ACL finally gave way) during Super Bowl LVI.

With Tyreek Hill questionable due to a wrist injury, Beckham could see more than 17 percent total playing time through four games (45 total snaps) in 2024.

And he could get a chance to duplicate the four-catch, 97-yard, one-touchdown he had against the Rams last year, when he faced the Rams as a member of the Ravens.

On Saturday, Rams coach Sean McVay said all the right things about Beckham based on his short stint with the Rams.

“He’s such a special player and such a talent,” McVay told reporters. “I think what I respect more than anything is what an impressive person he is and the things he’s been able to overcome, whether it’s setbacks from injuries. You’re talking about a gifted, talented receiver, very smart and intellectual, who can do so many different things. He made it possible for us to do the things we did during the short time we had him here.

“I think the biggest thing with people is, this is both Jalen (Ramsey) and Odell that I feel like, are you leaving an impact? What kind of relationships do you build and what impact do you leave behind? Both guys definitely left a big impact on me and this place. Jalen was here from 2019 until a few years ago and even Odell was only there for a handful of months, but the presence, the charisma and the ability to really have such a good sense of what it takes in terms of the dynamics of the room. He’s just as fun and just as aware as anyone I’ve been around. It was a real pleasure to coach him, and I still keep in touch with both guys. They mean a lot to me.”

Of course, they didn’t mean enough to the Rams to keep them. Ramsey was traded and Beckham wasn’t re-signed – in 2023 or 2024. And while Beckham certainly has plenty of reasons to show he can still get it done, he’s returning to the spot where he may have been on his way to Super Becoming Bowl MVP against a Rams team that didn’t want him back should give him extra motivation.

All he needs is enough opportunities to do it.
