Islanders of New York with the Edmonton Oilers

The Islanders (6-6-3) and the Oilers (7-7-1) meet Tuesday night in the Northlands, and it reminds me of the 1980s. In 1984, I was in fifth grade and had a physical education teacher from New York. He was a die-hard Islanders fan, and all he could say that spring was, “One for the thumb! One for the thumb!” It made me cheer for the Edmonton Oilers, and where I lived that was the only game televised anyway. The Oilers blew that run and never got a ring on their thumb.

The Islanders suffered a 4-3 overtime loss at home to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Three of the past five games have resulted in one-goal games, and the Over is on a 4-0-1 run for the Isles.

For the Oilers, they defeated the Canucks 7-3 in Vancouver in a scoreline that would make the Edmonton Elks and BC Lions proud. The Over cashed there, but the Under were 4-0 in the previous four games for the Oil, and the total has gone low in nine of the past 11 games.

The home side have won six in a row in this series, five in a row by two or more goals, with the Under winning 5-0-1, so that’s what we’ll do. Let’s put Edmonton on the puck line with the Under.

Calgary flames with the Vancouver Canucks

The Flames (8-5-3) and the Canucks (7-3-3) will battle it out for the second time this season at Rogers Arena. The teams met in a barn burner, pun totally intended, with the Flames taking a wild 6-5 overtime win on October 9 as a moderate underdog (+168).

The Flames defeated the Los Angeles Kings 3-1 last Monday and now face a quick turnaround without rest. Dustin Wolf was sharp in the win, so Dan Vladar is expected to get the nod here.

Calgary’s last three games have gone to overtime or a shootout, with the score tied 1-0-2. The Under is on a 7-1 run for the Flames as they go 11-3 in their past 14 games.

Vancouver fell 7-3 to the Oilers last time out, halting a three-game win streak. In the past two home games, the Canucks have gone 13-3 after two losses. Let’s take a shot at the Flames.

Columbus blue jackets at Seattle Kraken

The Blue Jackets (5-7-2) and Kraken (6-8-1) are the least attractive matchup of the three late matchups, so we’ll keep it short and sweet.

Columbus is on a fast slide, going 0-4-1 in its past five games, and scoring two or fewer goals in six straight games, while averaging just 1.8 GPG. The Jackets have also lost four straight to the Kraken in this series.

Seattle comes in with momentum after a 4-3 OTW over the visiting Vegas Golden Knights last Friday. The Kraken were a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde team, crushing goals or going through lengthy offensive droughts. However, they currently have more momentum.
