FIELD GOAL: Sanders remains perfect

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – In a game where so much was already going sideways, backwards – everywhere but forward – for the Rams’ offense, their first possession of the third quarter brought more new ways to shoot themselves in the foot.

Jonah Jackson, playing his second game at center (and first since Week 1 in Detroit) and Matthew Stafford, botched a quick exchange out of the pistol formation on what was initially a promising drive. Trying to save the play instead of falling on the ball, Stafford lost 13 yards, setting up a 52-yard field goal attempt. Kicker Josh Karty had already hit a field goal from 55 yards in the second quarter. His attempt from 52 meters came cleanly off his foot.

But the other center – Beaux Limmer, who had filled in well for Jackson while injured – was called for a false start and moved the kicking spot back to 57 yards. Karty missed.

The Dolphins scored a touchdown on their corresponding possession, meaning they had scored 10 points based on a turnover or missed field goal.

As the third quarter ended, the Rams began moving the ball again (including a one-handed catch on third down by Cooper Kupp), but again the drive stalled as Miami sent three additional rushers to Stafford – and only one was arrested. He suffered a loss of 12 yards at the end of the third quarter.
