The rain chances today are evolving into a storm threat for Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Rain chances are quickly returning to the forecast today, with a storm threat expected Wednesday.

Rafael’s old circulation remains parked along the Louisiana coast and is beginning to push moisture back into the area. According to today’s forecast, this will lead to occasional rain showers. The extra cloud cover will keep us from seeing highs until the mid 70s.

A storm threat will develop on Wednesday as a cold front moves into the state. This extra lift, in combination with Rafael’s old circulation, will provide a good chance of storms. Some of these storms can be severe, with damaging winds or a random tornado. Storm activity should end as we move into the evening and night.

Once at the end of this week the weather will be quite nice. Highs will drop back into the lower 70s as the nice-feeling fall air arrives. Saturday morning lows will drop into the 40s and 50s.

Tropics – Sara will likely form in the Caribbean over the next 48 hours. This storm could become a strong hurricane as it slowly meanders there. Long-range forecasts show the storm moving north into the southeastern Gulf.
