> What is the Emirates NBA Cup?

The Emirates NBA Cup (formerly the NBA In-Season Tournament) is the league’s annual seasonal competition, offering players and teams the opportunity to chase another championship, engaging fans in a new way and generating additional interest in the first part of the regular season. season schedule.


> When is the Emirates NBA Cup 2024?

The second season competition started on Tuesday, November 12 and culminated in the championship on Tuesday, December 17.


> Where will the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup be played?

All league games will be played at the NBA team markets, except the semifinals and championship, both of which will be held at a neutral site (T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas).


>Which teams are participating in the Emirates NBA Cup?

All 30 teams will participate in the first phase of the competition, Group Play. Eight teams will advance to the second and final phase, the single-elimination knockout rounds.


> What will the Emirates NBA Cup champion receive?

The champion receives a trophy, the NBA Cup. In addition, a prize pool will be allocated to players from teams that qualify for the knockout rounds, with allocations increasing depending on how far a team progresses in the competition.

> What is group play?

All 30 teams were randomly drawn into groups of five within their conference based on won-loss records from the 2023-2024 regular season. Each team plays four designated Group Play matches: one match against each opponent in its group, with two at home and two on the road.

Group Play matches will be played on “Cup Nights”, which take place every Tuesday and Friday from November 12 to December 3. The only NBA games played on Cup Nights are Group Play games.


> How were the groups determined?

Before the group play draw, each team was placed into a “pot” based on the record from the previous regular season (2023-2024). At each conference, one team was randomly selected from each pot in each of that conference’s three groups.

Pot 1 had the teams with the three best records from the previous season in a conference, Pot 2 had the teams with the fourth through sixth best records from the previous season in a conference, and so on through Pot 5.

> Will a new ball be used for Emirates NBA Cup matches?

There is a new Wilson ball that will only be used for Emirates NBA Cup matches. The leather ball meets the same specifications and is broken in the same way as all NBA game balls. The Wilson logo features a red (on one side) and royal (on the other side) graphic bracket in the letters. The event logo is on the top panel. Four panels feature a lightly etched bracket pattern. This new ball has been approved by both the NBA Competition Committee and the NBA Players Association.


> Which teams will advance to the knockout rounds?

Eight teams will advance to the knockout rounds: the team with the best record in group play matches in each of the six groups and one “wild card” team from each conference. The wild card is the team from each conference with the best record in group play matches that finished second in its group.


> What are the knockout rounds?

The knockout rounds consist of single-elimination matches in the quarterfinals (December 10–11), semifinals (December 14) and the championship (December 17).


> How will the Emirates NBA Cup impact the regular season?

Each team will still play an 82-game regular season. All Emirates NBA Cup matches count towards the regular season standings, except the Championship, which takes place outside the regular season.


> Why are there two games labeled “TBD” on each team’s 2024-2025 regular season schedule?

Each team will play two regular season matches (including the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Emirates NBA Cup for qualifying teams) from December 10 to 16. The 22 teams that do not qualify for the knockout rounds will play two regular season matches on free nights during the knockout rounds (December 12 or 13 and December 15 or 16). The four teams that lose in the quarterfinals will play a regular season game on December 12, 13, 15 or 16.
