Mt. Bachelor, Meadows opens Friday

It’s the earliest start to Oregon’s ski season in decades.

Bachelor Ski Area and Mount Hood Meadows, Oregon’s two largest resorts, are both offering preview weekends this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It is the earliest opening at Bachelor in 26 years and the earliest at Meadows in 15 years.

Timberline Lodge, western Oregon’s highest resort, is now open daily.

All three resorts are hoping to get a good amount of fresh snow from the current system this week and weekend.

The lower ski areas of Hoodoo and Willamette Pass have not yet announced openings, but should receive additional snow this weekend.

So far, predictions of a good snow season in the Northwest, fueled by a weak La Nina weather pattern, appear to be materializing.

Mount Hood Meadows opens 3 lifts, ballroom carpet

Meadows will be open from 9am to 4pm with the south side lifts of Buttercup, Easy Rider and Daisy, and the Ballroom Carpet conveyor belt will be in operation.

“Additional lifts and areas may open as conditions permit,” a news release said. “Early season conditions exist and guests are asked to stay on groomed trails and watch for unmarked obstacles.”

Following the preview weekend, Meadows will reevaluate conditions midweek and provide an update on additional hours, lifts and terrain, the resort said.

Mt. Hood Meadows Resort president and general manager Greg Pack said everyone is excited to open early this season.

“It is such an incredible position to be able to open ahead of schedule, and we are excited to get started on what is sure to be another great season of skiing and riding,” he said.

Bachelor is only accessible to pass holders

Bachelor will be open only to season pass holders this Friday, Saturday and Sunday before opening to the general public on November 22, the resort announced. The resort is aiming for a full opening of daily activities on November 29.

For this preview weekend, the Skyliner and Little Pine lifts are expected to be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hoodoo and Willamette are not open, but do have snow

The two lower and smaller ski areas, Hoodoo Ski Area, on Santiam Pass, and Willamette Pass, east of Eugene, have not announced openings, but both have a decent snow base for this time in the season and are expected to get some snow. more this weekend.

Hoodoo currently has 18 inches of snow on the ground. A mix of snow and rain is expected over the next few days.
