Nets close Ben Simmons and Dorian Finney-Smith vs. Celtics out

NEW YORK – The Brooklyn Nets get to play at home for the first time in almost a week when they take on the Boston Celtics at Barclays Center on Wednesday. While Dorian Finney-Smith was already listed as questionable ahead of Wednesday’s game against Boston before ultimately being ruled out with a left ankle sprain, Brooklyn will be missing another player who was just available for Monday’s 107-105 win. on the New Orleans Pelicans.

“Ben (Simmons) is just a little calf. We did an MRI; we don’t have the results. But it’s a day-to-day thing for now,” Nets head coach Jordi Fernandez said during his pregame availability on Wednesday. Like Finney-Smith, Simmons was ruled out Wednesday due to tightness in his left calf, which he may have suffered in the last-second win over the Pelicans on Monday.

“Good question because he didn’t tell me,” Fernandez said when asked if the calf strain was related to Simmons saying he had cramps after Monday’s win in New Orleans. “I know there was some tension and that’s why we did an MRI as a precaution. Like I said, we don’t have the results, I don’t know. I know he probably said it. If you say he has said, I don’t know. He didn’t tell me.”

While Simmons is considered an everyday player, Finney-Smith has now been ruled out of two games due to his sprained left ankle and there isn’t much indication of how long he will be out. Telling Fernandez, Finney-Smith’s injury isn’t considered serious, but the team wants to make sure he’s close to 100% the next time he steps on the floor.

“Dorian just has an ankle sprain. I just want him to be 200% ready and ready to go. That’s why he’s not playing. I want him when he’s ready to give me everything. His body is – not just him, but everyone our players – their bodies are the most important thing for us and their health. Every time he comes back he will give everything he has.”
