Base M4 Mac mini outperforms the M2 Pro model in single- and multi-core performance, delivers better GPU benchmarks, and costs $1,000 less

Apple recently launched the new M4 and M4 Pro Mac mini, and the performance of the new chips is astounding compared to industry standards and the company’s older Apple Silicon. We previously discussed how the performance of the company’s latest M4 Pro is comparable to that of the M2 Ultra chip, and if you want to buy the base model of the Mac mini with the standard M4 chip, then it’s a solid blow compared to the M2 Pro chip on the older model.

The M4 Mac mini costs $1,000 less than Apple’s M2 Pro Mac mini, but performs better in CPU and GPU tests

Vadim Yuryev from Max Tech on YouTube today shared a new video comparing the M4 chip to the M1, M2 and M2 Pro chips in various tests and benchmarks. Clearly, the base model of the Mac mini with an M4 chip outperforms the M2 Pro chip in multicore performance, as well as the Cinebench 2024 GPU test. While the results favor the new M4 Mac mini, we should consider that the machine is $1,000 cheaper than Apple’s M2 Pro Mac mini.

Apple’s M4 chip shows how far the company has come in such a short time with its Apple Silicon. The M2 chip range was only launched two years ago and it’s good to see the M4 chip beating the mid-range in terms of CPU and GPU results.

In single-core performance, the M4 chip received 3,828 compared to the M2 Pro’s 2,701, showing a huge performance difference. However, the M4 chip’s multi-core score is comparable to that of the M2 Pro, with 15,022 and 15,007 points respectively. This shows the performance of the M4 chip over the M2 Pro, but in a significantly cheaper package.

In the Geekbench 6 GPU test, the M2 Pro smokes the M4 chip in terms of performance, but the latest Cinebench 2024 GPU test suggests otherwise. According to Yuryev, Cinebench also takes into account “ray tracing and modern graphics, and the test shows a staggering 27 percent lead of the M4 chip over the M2 Pro chip with a score of 4,035 against the 3,175 of the letter. It’s surprising to see that Apple’s performance improvement after just two years is astounding, and it remains to be seen how the M4 Ultra chip will perform on the Mac Pro and next year. MacStudio.

The M4 Mac mini also surpassed the M2 Pro chip in Final Cut Pro 5 min 4K HEVC video export, making it a better video editing machine. The device also performed better in Blender 3D Rendering by a huge margin.

Keep in mind that real-world performance can vary from project to project, so be sure to take the news with a grain of salt. Even if the performance ratio between the devices is on par, we have to keep in mind that there is a $1,000 difference between the two models. Apart from that, the updated design also makes it one of the smallest Macs Apple has ever produced, with an innovative thermal solution. Do you think Apple’s Mac mini could pave the way for the company’s first gaming console?
