Eva Longoria escapes the ‘dystopian’ US to split time between two homes abroad

“I am privileged,” Longoria said in an interview with Marie Claire. “I can escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They will be stuck in this dystopian country, and my fear and sadness are for them.”

The Desperate housewives actress, who advocated for Harris and helped rally volunteers with Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) during the election, no longer lives full-time in the US. Instead, she divides her time between her two overseas homes in Spain and Mexico.

Longoria said she doesn’t miss living in Los Angeles because of the taxes and homelessness, and with President-elect Donald Trump returning to the White House, she no longer wants to spend more time in the US.

“But even before the pandemic, it was changing. The atmosphere was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to bitch about California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is over now,” she said.

She said she felt depressed in 2016 over Trump’s presidency, and now she’s shocked that “a convicted criminal” is president again.

“The shocking thing is not that he won,” she said. “It’s that a convicted criminal who radiates so much hate can hold the highest office.”

Longoria headlined the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this year.

“Kamala’s success is our success,” the actress said at the DNC in August. “And she also supports us to dream big. So let me tell you – in the Latino community, our community – we have a saying: ‘Si Se Puede!’… It means ‘Yes, we can!’ But tonight I’m here to tell you, ‘Yes She Can!’ So we’re going to say, ‘She Se Puede!’”

“I would like our fight to continue,” Longoria added. “If (Trump) keeps his promises, it will be a scary place.”
