Alex Pereira responds in seven words to Jon Jones calling for a unique title fight

Things seem to be getting a little confusing in the UFC heavyweight division as Jon Jones and Alex Pereira have seemingly agreed to fight each other.

There has been a ton of controversy surrounding Jon Jones’ return to the Octagon this Saturday at UFC 309, with the heavyweight champion set to defend his title for the first time against Stipe Miocic.

Since winning the vacant heavyweight title last March, the 37-year-old has yet to defend it after suffering a torn pectoral muscle, postponing his originally scheduled fight against Miocic.

Alex Pereira responds to Jon Jones after his title fight offer

The heavyweight division has been surrounded by controversy for the past two years since Francis Ngannou started having problems with the promotion.

Things got even more confusing last November when Tom Aspinall won the interim title after Jones’ injury, especially since the UFC hasn’t organized a title unification fight.

Despite this, Jones has caused a stir among the UFC fanbase this week by stating that he is unlikely to fight Aspinall if he retains his title this weekend.

Instead, the 37-year-old has sparked talk of a possible superfight against light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. ‘Bones’ stated that he believes a fight against Pereira would do more for his legacy than a unification fight against the Brit.

Jones even claimed he would give up the heavyweight title and then fight Pereira for a newly integrated heavyweight BMF title.

‘Chama, my brother. Let’s keep them waiting…” Pereira responded to Jones in a post on Instagram, tagging both Jones and UFC CEO Dana White.

Tom Aspinall Calls UFC 309 Main Event ‘Most Contested Title Fight Ever’

Despite Jones being widely regarded as the greatest fighter of all time, his recent antics regarding Aspinall and the heavyweight title did not sit well with the fans, or Aspinall for that matter.

The 31-year-old Brit even became one of the few fighters in UFC history to defend his interim title at UFC 304 earlier this year, knocking out Curtis Blaydes within the first two minutes of their rematch.

In a recent response to Jones’ dismissive comments, Aspinall labeled both Jones and Miocic “old farts” and claimed that their undisputed title fight is in fact “the most controversial title fight ever.”

“There is a fight for an undisputed heavyweight title, but for me this is far from undisputed, this is the most contested title you can get… Let’s face it, these are two old men fighting each other for a title, they occupy that title that’s weird,” Aspinall said in his response.
