Cynthia Erivo of Wicked flutes ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’

Featuring her upcoming role as Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) in Universal’s upcoming big screen adaptation of the Broadway hit and bestseller Badstar Cynthia Erivo is ready to shine again in the singing and acting department. But as Jimmy Fallon fans know well, the multi-hyphen has even more tricks up its sleeve.

On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Last night the presenter with most people even went so far as to wonder whether Erivo is actually the best whistler anyone has ever heard. Ever. Sure, Erivo has won numerous awards, including an Emmy, a Tony and a Grammy, but can any of those awards rival the honor of the world’s greatest whistler?

With Erivo dressed in a plain black hat to Elphaba’s point The Wizard of Oz Going forward, Fallon asked if she would be kind enough to whistle something for the audience, as she had done spectacularly on a previous visit to the show with a stunning rendition of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” So how could she top that? How about another tip for Wizard’s magical land of Oz: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”?

As you can clearly see in the video above, Erivo is a generational talent, whether it’s acting, singing, whistling or simply pleasing a late show crowd. And soon she will surely please the masses again Bad available in theaters everywhere later this month.

John M. Chu’s film centers on Erivo’s Elphaba and Ariana Grande’s Glinda and is a prequel to the 1939 film. The Wizard of Ozwhich shows a completely different side to the film’s antagonist, the Wicked Witch of the West. Before she is given that bad name by the perhaps even more evil Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum), Elphaba is just a student at the Shiz school of magic, learning how to harness her undoubted talents. Maybe whistling is one of those talents?

You’ll have to see for yourself when Bad –– also starring Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Peter Dinklage, Ethan Slater and Bowen Yang –– in theaters everywhere November 22.
