A narrow victory against Serrano in a beautiful rematch

At AT&T Stadium in Texas, Ireland’s Katie Taylor was jeered as she defeated Amanda Serrano in a thrilling points battle to retain her undisputed light-welterweight title.

In their rematch, the two delivered another classic, with Ireland’s Taylor’s astute counterattack and Serrano’s brutal volume hit.

In the fourth round, Taylor continually leaned her head forward and cut Serrano above the right side, which later opened up as blood rushed down the Puerto Rican’s face.

Those in attendance were convinced Serrano had done enough to get revenge for a narrow points loss in 2022, after the 38-year-old was deducted a point for a headbutt in the eighth.

However, Taylor won the fight 95-94 thanks to the votes of all three judges.

Taylor defended her IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO titles, bringing her record to 24 wins and one loss. The fight served as the main support for Mike Tyson’s 58th anniversary return fight against Jake Paul.

“For £4.99 you can’t go wrong, you’ll be entertained. For a fiver you can probably see female boxing’s biggest ever rematch in Katie Taylor versus Amanda Serrano. Don’t sleep on that. I was there at Madison Square Garden for the first fight and it was one of the best I have ever seen,” Tony Bellew said in an exclusive interview with BestOffshoreSportsbooks before the fight.

“Katie Taylor is an incredible fighter. She has corrected the mistakes she made in her career and now she faces Serrano again. It’s a twist between Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields as the greatest female fighters of all time,” Bellew added.

It was only the 36-year-old seven-division world champion Serrano’s third defeat in an incredible 51 professional fights. The impressive domed stadium was almost full as the boxers made their ring walks, but the super fight deserved to be at the top of the program.

As she danced past a line of Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, a beaming Serrano took in the admiration. Although Taylor’s ring walk was more subdued, she still took in the scene as she strolled down the runway in her black outfit with gold accents.

Serrano got off to a fast start, knocking Taylor’s legs with a left hook in the closing seconds of the first round. Bray native Taylor was well aware of her opponent’s strength after managing to stay upright throughout a remarkable fifth round of the first match. As the fight heated up, she again had the upper hand, landing combinations in the second.

Eddie Hearn, the promoter, waited from ringside, unsure whether he would receive accreditation for the event after criticizing the Tyson-Paul match.

As both women traded punches in a fantastic fifth, Serrano delivered the precise blows, and the challenger complained to the referee about Taylor’s excessive holding. Fans gasped at the close-up on the big screen as the ringside doctor looked at Serrano after another head-to-head match in the fifth.

Because her vision was poor, Serrano bravely soldiered on, wiping blood every few seconds. While both boxers were careful, Taylor used left hooks to deal the damage.

After being hurt by an uppercut in the seventh, Taylor responded with a pair of punches. As Serrano’s warrior mentality won over fans who might not previously have been committed to the mainstay, the fight lived up to all the hype.

Taylor continued to throw punches after the points deduction, but so did Serrano. Until the final seconds of round 10, Taylor and Serrano continued to throw hands, just as they did in New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Serrano was more accurate with her punches and landed Taylor. Over ten rounds she also landed 324 punches. In their first fight, they more than landed together.
