The Oregon State Beavers will try to put a month-long losing skid behind them this weekend.

The Beavers (4-5) will play their penultimate road game of the 2024 campaign when they travel to face Air Force (2-7) in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Oregon State has lost four straight games. The last win came during a 39-31 double-overtime win over Colorado State in Corvallis on Oct. 5. Last week the Beavers lost 24-13 to San Jose State.

“We moved the ball pretty well, but stubbed our toe in the red zone,” Oregon State coach Trent Bray said of San Jose State’s loss. “Four drives in the red zone and we only got three points out of it. That’s a problem. We have to be better in the red zone – it would have changed that game.”

Oregon State vs. Air Force Score Updates

This section will be updated when the game starts.

Score: Air Force 14, Oregon State 0 – 4:44 Q2

Oregon State punter Josh Green pinned Air Force on his own three-yard line with a sensational punt.

But the Falcons answered back with an eight-play, 97-yard drive that featured multiple explosive gains. Quentin Hayes finished it off with a one-yard keeper in the middle.

After a good start to the afternoon, Gabarri Johnson threw an interception to Camby Goff and Air Force took possession at its own 34-yard line.

As has often been the case this season, Oregon State freshman quarterback Gabarri Johnson was given the key to the offense for a series in the first quarter.

On his second snap of the day, Johnson uncorked an impressive 16-yard run.

Injuries remain a problem for Oregon State. In addition to Gulbranson, the Beavers are also without starting linebacker Melvin Jordan and starting cornerback Andre Jordan Jr.

Quentin Hayes burst into the end zone for a four-yard touchdown to put Air Force on the board early.

The Falcons went 75 yards on 11 plays on their opening series.

Oregon State sophomore defenseman Jaheim Patterson made his first start of the season on Saturday. After playing sparingly at safety early in the season, he was on the field at Nickel Corner for the first Air Force drive of the day.

Patterson came through with a big third-down tackle on the first drive.

Oregon State defensive tackle Jacob Schuster left with an apparent left leg injury after just the second play of the scrimmage.

Schuster has been a key figure for the Beavers this season. His 328 defensive snaps are ninth-most among OSU defenders and second-most among defensive linemen.

After announcing earlier this week that Ben Gulbranson will start at quarterback this week, the Beavers changed course this afternoon.

Gulbranson did not make the trip to Colorado Springs. The reason for his absence is unknown.

Gevani McCoy, who was Oregon’s No. 1 through the first eight games of the season, gets the start today for the Beavers.

What led to Oregon State’s decision to start Ben Gulbranson at quarterback midseason?

Oregon State will continue with Ben Gulbranson as the starting quarterback when it travels to Air Force this week.

Gulbranson made his first start of the season during the Beavers’ 24-13 home loss to San Jose State last Saturday. The fifth-year junior replaced junior Gevani McCoy, who started the first eight games of the year but was benched in favor of Gulbranson midway through OSU’s Week 10 loss to Cal.

With just three games left in the season, Oregon State (4-5) has struggled to find consistency at the position. In addition to Gulbranson and McCoy, freshman Gabarri Johnson has also seen playing time this fall.

“I thought we had more explosive passing. I thought the balls we caught, some of the balls down the field, were big, which gave us opportunities to score,” OSU coach Trent Bray said of Gulbranson’s performance. “The two interceptions hurt us, one for points . But as far as what we thought he was, as far as being a game manager and being able to make the throws that we need, he did that.”
