College Football Rankings: ESPN releases updated FPI Top 25 after Week 12

ESPN’s latest college football rankings are here after the network updated its FPI Top 25 after Week 12 of the season.

There was some movement in the top 10, including another new #1 team! But it’s a familiar face, so don’t get too excited. Of course we are joking.

After week 12 of action, let’s take a look at ESPN’s new FPI rankings.

Texas is back at the top of the FPI this week after a narrow victory over Arkansas. It wasn’t pretty, but it wasn’t honest work either.

All jokes aside, Quinn Ewers played pretty well, but the offense didn’t exactly set the world on fire. The defense kept them in the game and moved them closer to the top of college football, depending on who you ask.

Alabama only fell because Texas beat an SEC team while the Crimson Tide beat Mercer. We recommend?

Regardless, Alabama is still at the top of the FPI entering its final weeks. Could we see an Alabama-Texas game for the SEC title?

Ohio State defeated Northwestern 31-7 and rolled to another victory, now 9-1. But the Buckeyes did not advance in this week’s FPI rankings.

Next up is the huge game against Indiana, scheduled for a Big Noon Kickoff broadcast. Whether fans like it or not, all eyes will be on this, even if it starts in the afternoon next weekend. Get your popcorn ready.

Notre Dame also held serve in the FPI and recorded another dominant victory. This time the Irish defeated Virginia at home 35-14.

Oh well, Notre Dame scored on the opening kickoff by getting the ball back and running inside. Boom, about ten seconds, Notre Dame has a lead. They have been dominant since the painful loss to NIU.

Georgia got back on track by beating Tennessee and advanced in the FPI. It hampered the Vols’ SEC and CFP hopes, but UGA is back in the thick of things.

It’s just that damn Alabama loss, right? In any case, many were willing to write off Georgia after the loss to Ole Miss. Not so fast, my friend.

Speaking of Ole Miss, the Rebels fell one spot in the FPI despite facing the Bulldogs. But Lane Kiffin and crew are fully in the CFP mix after a bye week.

They’ll be heading to Florida next weekend before playing in the Egg Bowl. Two more wins and a 10-2 record? Yeah, she should get that in, right?

Penn State kept it going against teams not named Ohio State. The last was a dominant win over Purdue, moving up one spot in the FPI.

It seems like the best-case scenario is for the Nittany Lions to win and finish 11-1. By doing so, they should book a spot in the playoffs, perhaps even a home game.

Oregon dropped one spot in the FPI this week due to a less-than-stellar win over Wisconsin. Sure, it was exciting in the end, but it didn’t inspire much confidence in the CFP’s No. 1 team.

Winning 16-13 after trailing 13-6 going into the fourth quarter was scary. But the Ducks left Madison with an 11-0 record despite a slow day from QB Dillon Gabriel.

Tennessee dropped a game to Georgia but did not get into the FPI. This is still a very good football team.

But can the Vols make the playoffs? They only have two losses, so they’re right in the thick of it. We’ll see how the rest of the SEC plays out over the last two weeks.

Despite losing the first game last week, Miami actually moved up in the FPI, replacing undefeated Indiana in the top 10. Debate that if you will.

The Hurricanes are still the leader in the ACC, but SMU is hot on their heels. Prepare for a wild last two weeks of this conference.

South Carolina is steadily moving up and could have an outside shot at the playoffs in a chaos scenario. Colorado is now in the top 20 of the FPI after win No. 8 of the season. We continue to week 13!
