New York Rangers at Seattle Kraken odds, picks and predictions

The Seattle Kraken (9-8-1) hosts the New York Rangers (10-4-1) Sunday. Puck drop at Climate Pledge Arena is scheduled for 9:00 PM ET. Let’s round up the NHL odds from BetMGM Sportsbook Rangers vs Kraken Odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Seattle wraps up a back-to-back against New York squads after a 3-2 win as +102 home underdogs, with the Under (5.5) cashing in against the Islanders on Saturday. D Jamie Oleksiak scored the eventual game winner to break a 2 all tie with 3:13 to go. G Joey Daccord stopped 22 of 24 shots in the win. His start probably means that G Philip Grubauer will be between the pipes on Sunday looking to build on Seattle’s four-game win streak.

The Rangers, meanwhile, have alternated wins and losses in their past four outings, most recently getting past the San Jose Sharks in a 3-2 victory on Thursday. c Mika ZibanejadLW Jimmy Vesey and C Vincent Trocheck scored all three of Rangers’ goals in the second period as they scored as heavy -424 home favorites with the Under (6.5) hitting. The win marked a solid rebounding effort for G Igor Shesterkinwho had allowed five goals in each of his previous two games. Shesterkin stopped 25 of 27 San Jose shots in the win.

Rangers at Kraken projected goalies

Igor Shesterkin (7-4-1, 2.78, 0.914%, 1 SO) vs. Philip Grubauer (1-5-0, 3.27, 0.877%)

As noted above, Shesterkin bounced back from two tough home games — 6-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabers on Nov. 17 and 6-3 setback to league-best Winnipeg Jets Tuesday — to thwart the Sharks. In a small sample size, Shesty performed much better away from Madison Square Garden, posting a record of 3-1 with a GAA of 1.76 in four road trips compared to 4-3 with a GAA of 3.32 in eight home games.

It appears Grubauer will fill that assignment in the second half of a back-to-back. The German veteran has allowed more than three goals in four of six games this season. He is 1-2 with a 3.43 GAA in 3 home games.

Rangers at Kraken picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Kraken 2

Moneyline

New York (-190) is too much of a favorite for my prediction to recommend betting on the moneyline. I prefer to use the other two options below to maximize value.

PASSAGE.

Puck line/against the spread

New York’s puck line is a lofty gamble, but the Rangers have crushed the books along the way with a 5-1 ATS record in the interim. This also reflects Shesty’s recent preference for away games.

I expect an empty goal will tick this bet.

RANGERS BET -1.5 (+135).

Top/Bottom

These goalkeepers may have a lighter evening than expected. The Rangers rank 10th in MoneyPuck.com’s Goals Differential Above Expected (5.68), while Seattle ranks 12th (4.24). The Rangers’ luck is in danger of running out, or at least slowing down, on this trip to the West Coast.

Since I’m expecting the exact total that BetMGM Sportsbook uses to set the Over/Under line, I’ll go with the Under hoping Shesterkin stays hot and settle for the push if my predicted combined goal tally is correct. .

BET UNDER 6 (-105).
