According to ABC News, a tornado touched down in southwestern Oklahoma, ripping through the area near Granite, a town of about 1,600 residents.

Tornado warnings were issued throughout western Oklahoma and were expected to be in effect until 5:30 a.m. CST on Monday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has observed thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes in the area.

On its website, the NWS urged Oklahomans to “TAKE COVERAGE NOW!”

The agency said citizens are encouraged to: “Move to a storm shelter, safe room, or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. ​​Avoid windows. If you are outside, in a mobile home or in a vehicle, go to the nearest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.”

The NWS also warned Oklahomans about golf ball-sized hail and possible damage to mobile homes, roofs, windows and vehicles.
