The Giants are turning to Tommy DeVito instead of Drew Lock as Daniel Jones’ career with the Giants is likely over after he was benched following the Week 11 bye.

The Post’s Paul Schwartz explained that the Giants are taking a long-term view with this move, as Lock will almost certainly not be on the roster next season.

“Tommy DeVito will be an (exclusive) rights free agent in 2025 – he could be a backup or the bridge starter,” Schwartz wrote on X. “Starting DeVito now is about discovering that.”

The Giants’ season is all but over at 2-8, and the franchise will likely use these next seven games to determine who can be part of the 2025 team.

Lock signed a one-year, $5 million contract this offseason, which could theoretically allow him to replace Jones or fill in if he suffered an injury.

With Jones standing and the Giants waiting until Week 12 to make a move, there is seemingly little reason for the Giants to use Lock when they potentially have a cheap alternative on the roster.

It also didn’t help that Lock suffered an injury during the preseason, limiting the Giants’ opportunity to evaluate him, according to Schwartz.

DeVito, the fan favorite who played for Don Bosco (NJ) and Syracuse, showed his potential last season when he started six games after Jones and Tyrod Taylor both suffered injuries.

The Giants went 3-3 in his starts, with DeVito ironically playing a huge role in why the franchise didn’t land Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye in the 2024 NFL Draft because of those extra wins.

He threw for 1,101 yards and eight touchdowns in his nine games, along with three interceptions.

If DeVito shows he’s a capable quarterback, the Giants may have a cheap backup or starter on their 2025 roster or even a trade chip.

His first start of 2024 will come Sunday against the Buccaneers at MetLife Stadium.

“I feel good about it,” DeVito recently told The Post about his chances of starting over. “My mindset, my work ethic, the way I continue to progress as time goes on, it’s only going to make me better.”

He added: “You stay the course because you don’t know when your name will be called. Same as last year, but a little different because I didn’t know I was going to play. I experienced that last year, so now I know it’s real. I will keep my wits about me and if the opportunity arises, I will make the most of it.”
