Josh Allen has Kansas City’s perfect record

It’s no surprise that the Bills and Chiefs played out a high-stakes thriller that was decided when one of their quarterbacks made a spectacular play. But there was still no way, Realto be prepared for Buffalo QB Josh Allen’s improvisation in the most nerve-wracking of places – two up with just over two minutes to play, facing fourth-and-2 at the KC 26. Failing to gain the yards ( or choose to kick a field goal), and the Bills would hand the ball to Patrick Mahomes with the opportunity for a two-minute game-winning drill. Instead, Allen grabbed the victory for himself by beating every Chiefs defender all the way to the end zone.

Kansas City rushed four to Buffalo’s five blockers, but Allen was still able to spot a crease in the defense when he stepped into the pocket. With two wideouts moving to the sticks on the right side and another target the same distance away to his left, there was just enough opening in the middle for Allen to gain the distance he needed. But he didn’t stop there. As he accelerated toward the goal line, he dropped a diving tackler helplessly on his heels, shrugged off another who tried to fly at his arm, and sped through safety Bryan Cook as he fell triumphantly into the blue paint. The Bills had a two-score lead and the defense did its part to make it 30-21.

“As soon as I saw him cross the line of scrimmage, I basically knew he scored,” Dawson Knox said. “And even though there’s a linebacker, two DBs right in front of him, I’ve seen it a hundred times from him in the most important situations. He seems to do that all the time and it’s incredible to watch.”

After a series of close shaves, the Chiefs finally suffered their first loss of the season, while the Bills are now just half a game behind them at 9-2. Beating the last undefeated player in the league is obviously a huge boost for Buffalo, but this team has seen enough to know how much work remains to be done. This gives them four straight regular-season victories over Mahomes and KC, including three in a row that they managed to grind to the end. However, since the 2020 season, they have been eliminated from the playoffs all three times they have passed the Chiefs, the most recent being Tyler Bass’ game-tying field goal that went wide of Buffalo last season. Allen’s run was breathtaking and it will be a lasting memory for the (sober) fans who witnessed it. But the real question is: can he do it again in two months?
