Ovechkin career goal record chase: tracker, highlights, more

After breaking the 800-goal mark during the 2022-23 season, Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin now has his sights set on breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894 goals in the NHL.

Ovechkin started the 2024/25 season with 853 goals and now has 866.

The date on which Ovi Gretzky draws depends on his goal-scoring pace. According to ESPN Research, if he continues his current pace from 2024-2025, he would rank No. 894 against Utah on February 9. Using his career pace, goals per game, he would tie it against Anaheim on March 11. Using his goals per game since 2020-21, the record would come on March 22 against Florida.

Here, follow along as we cover every next goal Ovechkin scores this season, including goal highlights, the upcoming Capitals schedule and how to watch.
