Josh Brolin opened up about his complicated relationship with his mother in his new memoir, “From Under the Truck,” sharing something that wasn’t as motherly as she used to be.

The actor, known for his role as villain Thanos in the Marvel films, sat down for an interview with The Times, published on Saturday, to talk about his book. In the article, the interviewer mentions a story Brolin talks about in the book, where he details his mother Jane, who was a conservationist in Texas.

The Oscar nominee grew up on a farm in Paso Robles, California, with his younger brother Jess.

As for his mother’s drinking, he said she often took her sons to bars, flirting with cowboys and truck drivers to get them to buy her drinks.

The Brolins kept several rescued wild animals at the ranch: bobcats, cougars, coyotes, wolves and mountain lions.

In what he described as an extremely traumatizing trick she pulled, she would often shout, “Sic ’em,” at whatever wild animal was nearby, sending the animal chasing her sons.

Usually the animals left, causing the boys to flee.

“You knew that if you didn’t get to the other side of that closed door in a few seconds, you would spend the rest of the day cleaning up new bloody spots somewhere on your body,” Brolin wrote.

Although the ‘Brothers’ actor questioned his mother’s behavior, he admired her strength and now realizes that the most difficult parts of his childhood helped shape the person he is today.

“She was a pain in the (expletive). I mean, there’s no one to dispute that – no one – but you don’t want her around,” he wrote.

Jane made “everything a little more powerful, a little more alive.” He then added, “It just falls into that spot.” Like, “Oh, you’re definitely your mother’s son.”

Ultimately, Brolin’s mother died in a car accident in 1995 at the age of just 55.

“From Under the Truck” will be available starting Tuesday.
