‘Wicked’ provides Christmas sing-along screenings

Moviegoers can channel their inner Glinda and Elphaba during sing-along screenings of “Wicked.”

But they will have to wait. Interactive screenings of Universal’s upcoming movie musical will be offered in approximately 1,000 North American theaters beginning December 25 — about a month after “Wicked” hits the big screen. Exact plans, including the number of locations and showtimes, have yet to be finalized.

“Wicked” hits theaters on November 22, after which audiences can play along at their own risk to classics like “Popular” and “Defying Gravity.” Act 1 of the beloved Broadway show also includes memorable tunes like “Dancing Through Life,” “The Wizard and I” and “One Short Day.” Bonus points for theatergoers who can imitate Doctor Dillamond’s goat cry in “Something Bad.” Fans will have to wait until the second film, which debuts on November 21, 2025, to catch up with Act 2 favorites like “For Good” and “No Good Deed.”

With these sing-along screenings, “Wicked” follows the musical notes of other song-heavy theatrical hits, such as Hugh Jackman’s “The Greatest Showman” and the Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo star in “Wicked,” the big-screen version of the long-running Broadway show about everything that happens before Dorothy lands in Oz and strolls down that iconic Yellow Brick Road. Set before, during and after “The Wizard of Oz,” the story charts the unlikely friendship of Elphaba (later known as the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda (eventually named Glinda the Good), torn apart by external relations. forces. The film’s ensemble includes Jonathan Bailey as love interest Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University director Madame Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq of Munchkinland, and Bowen Yang as Glinda’s comrade Pfannee.
