Keke Palmer looks back on the roles that made her a household name.

Appears on The Toasthosted by Claudia & Jackie Oshry, the 31-year-old actress discussed some of the parts that helped her break into the industry. In an exclusive clip shared with PEOPLE, Palmer nodded to Barbershop II And Akeelah and the Bee, before looking back on her time on TV.

“What put Keke Palmer on the map as a boo uncle was Real Jackson, Vice President. My life changed after that, honey,” she said of the Nickelodeon show.

Claudia noted that Palmer also starred in Disney’s Jump inand how rare it was for young stars of the era not to work exclusively with one of the two networks.

“Disney is really great when it comes to not just the stories you see on the screen, but the stories within the company. They tell stories through marketing, through their employees. They have the pins in the office,” Palmer said.

“They’re literally a whole universe, and I think that feels really good as a kid, because the magic doesn’t end. There’s an element that makes it really fun to be a part of.”

Palmer later noted that “Disney has a way of making you feel, ‘I have to be here. It’s something you want to be a part of.’ “

When it came to Nickelodeon, “their payment was really great,” Palmer revealed, adding that the environment was “kind of ‘Come in and get this check.’ It wasn’t about making it exciting per se.”

“One day we were doing some major promotion for all the new shows coming to Nickelodeon. We had to downsize. Of course, when you film stuff, you don’t just film it once. You film it multiple times,” she said.

Explaining that she was in her “weaving era,” Palmer continued, “When I tell you they slimed me down, they had to wash it all out.” I spent hours under the dryer, just to lose weight again? Oh honey, I hated that slime after that. It was too much.”
