Where SEC teams are in the playoffs

Heading into the final weeks of the 2024 college football regular season, the SEC is — to put it kindly — a bit of a mess.

While few would dispute the idea that the conference is one of the sport’s best, if not the Hi, there’s a logjam near the top of the league leaderboard.

With Georgia beating Tennessee last Saturday, there are now six teams in the conference with fewer than three total losses, including four that all have two losses in SEC play. -team competition.

Some much-needed clarity was provided Tuesday night when the College Football Playoff selection committee unveiled its third set of rankings of the season.

Last week’s rankings included five SEC teams between No. 7 and No. 15, something that could only get more complicated after the Bulldogs’ win over the Vols added another team to the ranks of the SEC squadrons with two losses.

How exactly do Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama stack up against each other when they each have two losses and head-to-head results only add to the confusion, with the Bulldogs beating the Vols, who beating the Crimson Tide, who beat the Bulldogs? And what about Ole Miss, which beat Georgia by 18, but lost to a Kentucky team 4-6?

Here are the third full playoff rankings from the 2024 season, including where SEC teams placed in the top 25:
