A small vegan restaurant in Bend got the visit of a lifetime when a famous celebrity chose to eat at the restaurant not once, but twice.

Woody Harrelson and his wife, Laura Louie, visited Salud Live Kitchen on Monday and Tuesday and took time to chat and take a photo with Chef Bethlyn Rider, a well-known chef in the central Oregon mountain town and current employee of the restaurant.

Owner Corrine Coxey, who met Harrelson on his second visit, said the couple were very down-to-earth and humble people and that meeting them made her day.

Harrelson is an actor known for his work on “Cheers,” “True Detective,” “The Hunger Games” franchise and other films and TV shows, and has been vegan for more than 30 years.

Why was Woody Harrelson in Bend?

Coxey said she spoke with the couple after dropping off some items to her employees and found out it was their first time visiting Bend and visiting family.

“They loved that I asked them if they were skiers,” Coxey said after learning the couple loved Bend and were sad the ski area wasn’t open.

Woody Harrelson’s visit to Salud Live Kitchen in Bend may be just what the restaurant needed

Coxey also said Harrelson’s visit may have been just what the restaurant needed.

“We’ve actually been struggling, and I don’t even know how long I can keep the doors open,” Coxey said, saying this is the restaurant’s slowest year since opening.

Salud Live Kitchen opened in 2013 after Coxey said she was tired of complaining that there were no restaurants for vegans in Bend “where you knew every ingredient used was good.”

“I just really wanted to bring healthy, organic, simple food to Bend,” Coxey said.

Entering its 12th year, the restaurant offers vegan entrees, freshly squeezed juices, smoothies, desserts, healing tonics and ready-to-use cleansers, as well as grab-and-go meals, according to Salud’s website.

Did Woody Harrelson enjoy eating at Salud Live Kitchen?

Coxey said the couple raved about the food.

“When I took their order, his wife said, ‘I want the same thing as yesterday, it was so good’… I was like, thank you!… It was really cool that they came back two days in a row,” Coxey said.

“They were so sweet and a wonderful couple, and I’m so grateful they came in,” she said.
