Austin Reaves discusses how trouble down the road can be ‘good’ for Lakers

At home, the Lakers look like a promising team looking for ways to win. They have remained undefeated in six matches at the Crypto.com Arena.

Along the way, they’ve been blown out by the Cavs, lost handily to the Grizzlies and suffered an embarrassing loss to the Pistons.

With a 1-4 road record, the Lakers head to San Antonio to take on the Spurs and begin their quest to win a second NBA Cup.

It will be a short trip, with back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. Ideally, Los Angeles could pick up a few wins and quell the noise that they are a much worse team away from home.

Amid the Lakers’ recent homestand, Austin Reaves discussed the team’s road issues following Sunday’s win against the Raptors and put a positive spin on the current situation.

“You would want it to go smoothly the whole time,” Reaves said. “Obviously you’re going to go through ups and downs. I think not playing well on that road trip would have been a good thing for us to fully delve into what we need to do to be successful. I feel like these coaches put us in a position where we can be successful and if we believe in it and do it, good things happen. Even if it’s a game plan adjustment, they come in and say, ‘We messed up do this.

“Everyone just holds each other accountable. So it’s something beautiful to see.”

Gotta love Reaves’ positive take on this. The NBA season is long and it won’t always be smooth sailing. When trials arise, it is better to get them out of the way early, address what needs to be fixed and improved so that the team can be at its best during the playoffs.

Fortunately, the upcoming matches in LA won’t be against top talent. The Spurs are at .500 entering Friday’s game, and the Pelicans, who they play Saturday, are 3-6.

So they should be able to perform better on this road trip and possibly win both games and return to Los Angeles on a five-game winning streak.
