November Gale Winds – Warning Thursday

Hazardous weather conditions for portions of Illinois coastal waters of Lake Michigan and Indiana coastal waters of Lake Michigan

GALE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM THURSDAY TO MIDNIGHT CST THURSDAY NIGHT...

* IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course, and/or secure the vessel for hazardous conditions.

THURSDAY
West gales to 40 kt becoming northwest to 45 kt. Snow
in the morning, then rain and snow in the afternoon. Waves 4 to 6 ft occasionally to 8 ft building to 8 to 11 ft occasionally to 14 ft.

THURSDAY NIGHT
North gales to 40 kt becoming northwest and diminishing to around 25 kt overnight. Chance of rain in the evening. Waves 10 to 14 ft occasionally to 18 ft subsiding to 6 to 9 ft occasionally to 12 ft.

Gale winds refer to the strong winds that can create dangerous conditions, especially for boating and maritime activities. A Gale warning is issued to warn of sustained surface winds or frequent gusts in the range of 34 knots (39 mph) to 47 knots (54 mph)
