George Strait: The king takes his crown

The highlight of the evening? George Street. The Texas legend was honored with the prestigious Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. After a moving tribute performance, Strait took the stage to reflect on his incredible journey.

Following a series of heartfelt tribute performances from stars like Miranda Lambert and Chris Stapleton, George Strait took a moment to express his gratitude and send special shoutouts to his fans, friends and loved ones. Among those he honored was his wife of more than 50 years, Norma Strait.

“It’s been an amazing 53 years,” Strait said, visibly emotional as his wife Norma cheered him on.

And what a career it has been. Strait’s legacy speaks for itself with 60 No. 1 hits, 33 platinum or multi-platinum albums and a record 17 CMA Awards. CMA CEO Sarah Trahern said it best:

“There have been few other artists as authentically Texas and authentically Country as George Strait, and country music fans around the world have gotten better for it. A three-time CMA Entertainer of the Year and the most nominated artist of all time, he serves as an inspiration and icon for many of the great new artists we know today. I am very happy that we grant him this well-deserved honor.”

Simone Biles brings Texas flair to the awards

It wasn’t just Strait who carried the Texas torch. Olympic champion Simone Biles lit up the stage as she presented the award for Female Vocalist of the Year. One of Texas’ brightest stars, Biles brought her charm and confidence to the CMA stage, adding a dose of Lone Star magic to the night.
