We also keep an eye on the most popular products sold at retailers, in case a new deal has appeared. Such high-profile deals can sell out quickly. Our focus is on well-made and reviewed products at reasonable prices. That means not everything will cost half as much (or more), but they are worth it.

While we’d be just giddy if you made all your Black Friday purchases through our posts, we know that’s not practical (and we forgive you). So here are some general Black Friday tips that will help you get the best deals across the board.

Check out loyalty programs like Amazon Prime and Walmart+

Companies want to include you in their retail infrastructure, and subscription models do that better than anything else. And while it may feel a little strange to pledge loyalty to an online retailer, it can really be worth it. Walmart’s Walmart+ program (which now costs just $50 for the first year, down from $100) gives members access to the best deals just hours before they’re open to the public. That could be the difference between snagging a new TV and seeing the dreaded “out of stock” warning. Amazon Prime offers access to exclusive deals that non-Prime members will never get. Sure, there are some upfront costs involved, but these programs can make financial sense if you do the math.

Look at the price history

Personally, I use Keepa in my browser to view an item’s price history. The discount percentages you see on product pages can be misleading and show discounts compared to an increased retail price. You can also use Camelcamelcamel to accomplish a similar task. But remember, just because something has hit a lower price in the past doesn’t mean it will hit that super low price again in the future. That’s especially true here in 2024.

Only buy things you really need

You can’t make a deal for something you don’t need. I personally make a list of items I hope to buy on Black Friday, along with the prices I’m willing to pay for them. Doing this in advance gives me a good idea of ​​what I really need or want. You’ll see a lot of deals popping up that look too good to pass up. But really think about the reality of buying that breakmaker before you add it to your cart.
