NJ man killed 74-year-old, stole her car and bank card, police say

A man entered the home of a 74-year-old woman and killed her before making off with her car and bank card, authorities alleged.

Kishan, S. Seth, 21, of Newark, was arrested Tuesday and charged with several crimes, including murder, weapons offenses, first-degree home invasion and multiple counts of theft and disturbing, moving or concealing human remains, according to the District Attorney’s Office Bergen County. .

Seth is accused of entering Rita Acharya’s home, located on East Ridgewood Avenue in the suburb of Paramus, and killing her by strangling and stabbing her.

Prosecutors also allege he tried to cover up the crime before taking her bank card and taking off with her vehicle.

Police conducted a welfare check at Acharya’s home at 4:08 p.m. Monday and found her body on a couch, officials said. Authorities have not said what day the killing occurred.

Prosecutors say Seth was known to the victim.

He is now in custody at the Bergen County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.
